Origin Story
Standing in the cafeteria line in ’95, I watched a classmate double over and vomit baked beans and chocolate milk onto the dingy rubber floor. This was not the first time I’d seen someone vomit. Not even close; I frequently sidestepped heaps of soggy, bile-scented cat litter on my way to and from class. Someone […]

12 Bloganuary: Notion.so
Notion really comes in clutch at work. I’m an office manager, so there’s a lot that goes on I need to be able to remember. Much like my personal bullet journal, I make a daily journal for work. I use a template and have automated entry creation to a button click, so each day I just need to click “make a journal entry” and the basics and layout are ready to go:

I don’t want to write a blog post today. I was disappointed to realize I didn’t already have one scheduled. There’s no topic in mind, today, and I exhausted all the WP-provided prompts I had anything to say about. But I paid for this account so I would write every day, so by Jove, here’s […]

09 Bloganuary: Romanticize Everything
I always wondered if anyone could really enjoy something like that. Yes, it all sounded picturesque. Yes, hot water feels good on my hands in the winter. Yes, it’s all quite cinematic, picturing her in her apron in her quaint little kitchen looking at the bird feeder through the window, washing the dishes — but who thinks about that kind of thing when they’re performing a deplorable chore? Ten years after losing her, I realize Mama B. was romanticizing the act. She really was seeing it through that lens of mindfulness, even though she didn’t have these trending words in…

08 Bloganuary: Cult of the #GirlBoss
To explain that right quick: In his book, Scott Alexander encourages the enterprising reader to think of him or herself as a rhinoceros. To have a thick skin, to be powerful and ferocious, and to charge through obstacles. Everyone who is complacent where they are or too meek to charge is a cow. Cows are destined for mediocrity. But when I think about my personal values, charging ahead, plowing down obstacles like a brute — that’s not me. I don’t think that could ever be me. And that’s okay. Also, Amway loves that book. Take from that what you will.

This post is about dream jobs, and I don’t have one.

I have nothing to advertise, so my billboard would contain one of three quick but impactful messages I think are good to bear in mind:

The older I get, the more firmly I hold that leisure time is some of the most important time we’ve got.

One thing I try to do, but kinda suck at doing consistently, is being nice to Future Foxy. Future Foxy is, of course, me; she’s the version of me that has to deal with whatever bullshit Present Foxy is setting up for her. Present Foxy can be a real wanker, too.

The Gist
I’m starting a new blog mainly for writing accountability. I’ll BUJO on my own terms, but actually writing has been a struggle for a little while, now. I figured since I paid for the domain, I’ll (hopefully) feel more inclined to make it a habit to write here. The bloganuary deal on a paid account […]
